Tom Dorn,
President of Dorn Policy Group Inc., has a diverse background in government
and politics at both the State and Federal level.
Prior to starting Dorn Policy Group Inc. in November
2000, Tom was a Partner for three years at Jamieson and Gutierrez, one of
the leading public affairs firms in Arizona.
There he was the chief legislative strategist and lobbyist for the firm’s
extensive list of clients. Notable clients included America West Airlines,
Cox Communications,
Fiesta Bowl, Hitachi Data Systems, Reliant Energy, Southwest Student
Services and the City of Tucson.
Jamieson and Gutierrez hired Tom away from the
Arizona Department of Transportation where he was the State and Federal
Liaison. There he was instrumental in the development of Governor Fife
Symington’s federal transportation policy and served as the key resource to
the Arizona
Congressional delegation for the federal reauthorization of the Intermodal
Surface Transportation Efficiency Act. Tom was also Arizona’s
representative to the STEP 21 Coalition, a multi-state, Washington-based
effort to secure equitable highway financing throughout the United States.
In 1995, Tom successfully worked with Congressional staff to insert
language in the National Highway System Act establishing the CANAMEX
Corridor as a high priority corridor. The Corridor has since become the
cornerstone of multi-state transportation and economic development
cooperation from Arizona to Montana.
Tom has also worked as the Legislative Director for
the Arizona State Land Department, where he secured passage of legislation
to allow two referendums regarding state land exchanges to be placed on the
state general election ballot. He lobbied the legislature on various
matters including natural resource management, forestry, urban planning and
environmental protection.
Previously, Tom was Legislative Director for the
Arizona Department of Commerce. Active in several economic development
trade organizations, he lobbied the state legislature on issues such as
business recruitment, international trade, energy utilization, housing, business finance
and sports promotion.
Early in his career, Tom served as a Congressional
intern in Washington for former Arizona
Congressman Jay Rhodes and then as a legislative assistant to prominent Arizona lobbyist P.
Robert Fannin.
Tom holds both a Bachelors degree in Political
Science and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Arizona State
University (ASU). He was recently named by The Business Journal as one of
the top 40 Under 40 business leaders in Phoenix. He is active in the Arizona
Chamber of Commerce, Greater Phoenix Economic Council Policy Development
Team, Arizona Highway Users, Arizonans for
Cultural Development, Goldwater Institute and the ASU College of Extended
Education Deans Council.
